Some adults are so inspiring to look at. They have a composed personality and are an embodiment of valour. But where do they learn that? Just have a look at their childhood. All the allied components of their character are inculcated by their parents. While taking care of the physical growth of our children we often forget the mental aspect. Besides eating healthy, scoring good marks and behaving well in front of people, there are many other things which are much important for your child. It is their “Mental Health”. Here are ways to improve your children’s mental health.
It is really important to build a connection with your child. Every child is not alike. They have different natures with different innate mindsets. Some children can understand by mere soft words, some need to be scolded. Different children follow the same piece of advice differently. So, parents need to choose the right way for children according to their nature. It also builds children’s confidence and trust in their parents. Children would have a reassurance that someone has got their back
For example, if someone has three children, he or she cannot bring up all them on the same pattern.
Parents as Ideal
The first sight of every newborn is of one’s parents. While growing up, he cannot distinguish good from the bad. Whatever he will see around, it will seem right to him. If parents are not habituated to good habits, it will lead their children to destruction as well. The destruction of children is not seen in short-run but it will be evident in the long run. So the role of parents is significant in improving children’s mental health.
A healthy-looking child does not imply that he or she is mentally stable. If a parent is not mentally stable it can impact the child immensely. Here the role of religion is much noticeable. If parents seek help from God in their every matter, kids will also develop the belief that every burden will be alleviated by God. Resultantly children will be able to find determination, valour, satisfaction, patience and stability in their parents making their characters improved. By an improved character, children’s mental health will boost with time.
There should be an appropriate time for parents to teach kids:
“Action speaks louder than words”
Encourage your Kids to Read Motivational Books
There is a huge impact on what you read or watch. Today’s young generation is unaware of the great “Plethora of Books”. Encourage your children to read motivational writers like Dr Wayne Dyer. The habit of reading books will improve children’s mental health. Their self-confidence, awareness and empathy will increase. It will give them motivating lessons for the future thus helping them to improve themselves and their relationships. Telling children motivational stories will promote brain development and imagination.
Connect Them to Nature
One thing that improves children’s mental health is their relation to nature. Nature has a deep impact on physical and mental health. Take your child outside, to the park, in the mountains, besides the lake. Teach them to feel the delicacies of every other form of nature. Nature fortifies the emotional and physical well-being. Moreover, it connects them to the real self. It helps them to breath out the negativities and take in the positive vibes.
Teach them the Language of Feelings
The most endangered language in the world is “The Language of Feelings”. It is really difficult to learn but easy to understand. Teach your children to sense emotions. Teach them to care for others and make them sensitize to every emotion present on someone’s face. Illuminate them to find tranquillity even in the commotion. Tell them how to react in different situations, this will help them in the long run while making them compassionate. Tell them that all humans are created in a form of a beautiful bouquet. The purpose of our lives is to help each other somehow.
Model Patience and Gratefulness
It is the most difficult task to inculcate patience in a child’s nature. By nature, a child is eager to know everything, contemplates the surrounding while imitates every other behaviour. If a child sees an impatient and unthankful person around him, he will adapt to the same behaviour. If he observes that his life is incomplete and whatever he possesses is not enough, he will live in that feeling of void throughout his life. Being unthankful is a mental state which leads to major mental diseases. An unthankful person yields to jealousy, envy, lie, varnish. In today’s world, 6 out of 10 people live unsatisfactory and discontented lives. A major reason behind it is a varnish on social media which is a leading cause of youngsters’ depression and mental illness. They are unaware of the fact that
“God has created everyone’s life perfect in his own way.”
So, it is the responsibility of parents to portray gratitude. It will increase the belief of children in God and they will understand that not everyone’s life is perfect. Difficulties come and go, it is the real crux of life.
So, the mental health of your children is also important for their well-being. Besides making your child a successful man, also pay heed on making him the right human. Invest your time in improving the mental health of your child. Only mentally sound individuals can lead to a sound, progressive and successful society.
